About Us

Fort Scott Public Library has been in our Carnegie building since its completion in 1904. We have a staff of 6, plus two summer assistants. The library is governed by a board of 8 Fort Scott
residents, 7 are appointed by the City Commission, and the Mayor serves by state statute.

The library is open 9-6 Monday-Friday and 9-2 Saturday.

The library offers books, audiobooks, DVDs, magazines, and newspapers to look at in the building or to check out. In addition we have public computers, free wifi, internet hotspots to
check out, and the ability for you to print from your phone without logging on to a PC. We also have a nice selection of toys to entertain children while their adults are using the computers.
The library offers ebooks through Hoopla and Sunflower eLibrary (Libby). We also can set you up with a Kansas Library eCard from the State Library of Kansas. This allows you to check out
even more ebooks and provides access to many databases for all ages.
Fort Scott Public Library offers many programs for all ages. Check our website fortscott.mykansaslibrary.org for more information and for a calendar of upcoming events. We
have storytime for the younger patrons, 4th -12th grade Book Club, 4th -12th grade Group, Coding groups for grades 3-5 and grades 6-12, Marvelous Monday for homeschoolers, the Unbook Club for adults to discuss anything they are reading, and Crafter day, primarily for adults but anyone is welcome, to come color or bring your own craft projects to work on. To encourage reading for youth of all ages, the library offers 1000 Books before Kindergarten!
